Abstract: The spatial model of element regular and symmetrical frame-shear wall structures is established, and the elasto-plastic seismic response of structures under uni-and bi-directional seismic excitation is analyzed. The analysis results, including maximum displacement of comer columns, maximum story drift, time—history curves of vertex aeceleration and time-history curves of vertex displacement, are compared. It is found that RC frame.wall structures
will suffer qreater damage under bi-directional seismic excitation than uni-directional seismic excitation. It is difficult to reveal the true seismic performance of structures under the actual earthquake only trough the uni-directiona dynamic analysis.

Key words: frame-shear wall structure;seismic response;uni—and bi—directional seismic excitation;spatial model of element
