Abstract: To meet the different order needs of displacement and pore-pressure shape functions in consolidation problem analysis, it used the superposed element, formed by superposing two elements with the same geometry but different nodal numbers and nodal degree of freedom numbers. Based on the careful comparison of the difference between the superposed element and the ordinary element, the programming method and some SUBROUTINEs designed by FORTRAN77 were given for the superposed element. The feasibility of the method has been proved by giving two examples.

Key words: superposed element; consolidation analysis; finite element method; programming
