Stress Corrosion Cracking Behavior of 5083 Aluminum Alloys in 3.5%NaCl Solution

Abstract: The stress corrosion cracking(SCC) behavior of aluminum alloys 5083 in air and 3.5 %NaCl solution has been investigated by using slow strain rate tension and scanning electron microscopes,and the effects of pre-deformation and strain rate on the SCC behavior of the alloy have been studied. The results indicate that aluminum alloys 5083 are susceptible to SCC which can occur in 3.5 %NaCl solution but not in air. The alloys are more susceptible to SCC at the strain rate 1.0×10-6 s-1 than at 0.33×10-5 s-1 ,and...
