Abstract: Compared with other numerical methods, the finite volume method has greater physical significance. In order to describe the process of heat saving and extracting, the present paper develops a onedimension unsteadystate heat and mass transfer model for seawater solar pond by using the finite volume method. To validate the model, a reported case was selected to solve the problem and the results were agreed well. To apply the present model, the temperature and radiation data in Zhanjiang of 2004 were employed for the numerical boundary condition to analyze the thermal physical properties of seawater solar pond. The results show that the finite volume method model of seawater solar pond can objectively and accurately describe the process of the unsteadystate heat and mass transfer in seawater solar pond. The LCZ temperature decreases by the increase of the heatloads and it will be enhanced when the depth of NCZ increases. The meteorological parameter and environment in Zhanjiang is very suitable for the application of seawater solar pond.
