Abstract: According to the asphalt concrete covering surface project in north approach of Shantou Haiwan Bridge for Shanfen Expressway in Guangdong Province, the different degrees of disease that were produced by the transitional pavement of the soft base sections in north approach of Shantou Haiwan Bridge finished in 1997 are investigated and analyzed, and the problems to be noted for the design and construction of the covering structures for the asphaltic concrete pavement are presented. The practices have proved that these covering structures are effective.
