Abstract: It summarizes the method of measuring the refractive index of the magnetic fluids, and discusses the influence of various factors including the external field, the concentration of magnetic particles, film thickness, temperature and the incident power density,on the refractive index of magnetic fluids. The application of the tunable refractive index of magnetic fluids in devices and its development are proposed.
