Fast Design of a Compact Four-band Microstrip Patch Antenna

Abstract: The multi-band antenna met the demand of the multi-functional communication systems, corresponding with the trend of the system integration. A four-band compact microstrip patch antenna was proposed by adding a slot and a pin to a square microstrip patch. A fast design procedure was also examined, by which the center frequencies of each operational band as well as the input impedances could be altered by modifying the dimension of the slots and the locations of the pins. The full wave simulations of a prototype were made by commercial software. The simulated and the measured S11 and the radiation patterns during the operating bandwidths were obtained, testifying the design concept and the antenna performance. This model might be used as a multi-system compatible antenna.
