Synthesis of Ellipsoid-like ε-MnO2 and Highly Active Catalytic Degradation of Methylene Blue

Abstract:

In this paper, through calcining the ellipsoid-like MnCO3 precursors at 500°C, the ellipsoid-like ε-MnO2 catalysts with an excellent property to decompose methylene blue can be obtained. ε-MnO2is measured by SEM, XRD, UV-Vis and BET. The results show that the ellipsoid-like ε-MnO2catalysts possess a high surface area of ca.88 m2/g. The obtained ellipsoid-like ε-MnO2 materials are used as catalysts to decompose methylene blue in the present property  of H2O2.And the ellipsoid-like ε-MnO2 can remove about 92% of methylene blue, which shows excellent property to remove methylene blue at room temperature. This shows that ellipsoid-like ε-MnO2 is a highly efficient catalyst removal of methylene blue.
